The Mentorship Program for Student Athletes
The Stephen Pierce Foundation Mentorship Program
The following is an overview of the Mentorship Program:
Objective: The Stephen Pierce Foundation shall provide effective mentorship to high school student-athletes. The mentorship program is commitment is to develop success beyond the student-athlete’s “playing years.”
Mission: The mission of The Mentorship Program for Student Athletes is to provide support to underprivileged student athletes who are attending inner city school. Our focus is to mentor student athletes who are transitioning from high school to college level sports, as well as provide mentorship to workshop participants during their college years.
Target: Junior and Senior Student Athletes who come from socially economically disadvantaged families and who attend inner city schools.
Who: Stephen Pierce, a retired professional athlete, will conduct the seminars and workshops. Volunteers will assist him in handing out information and may present a speech if they have a background in either of the following: athletics, professional sports, college level athletics, coaching, or teaching.
What: The Mentorship Program for Student Athletes is a two day program presented by Stephen Pierce. Stephen will tell his personal story of being a high school student-athlete who played in college and then went on to have a career in professional sports. As a retired professional athlete and President of the NFL Retired Players Association Stephen Pierce’s life story will explain the pros and cons of student athletes who are prepared for life after sports vs. those who are not.
Why: Currently there is no other mentorship program that offers mentorship to underprivileged student athletes who are attending inner city schools. Many student athletes become star struck and do not have the peers or the family support to successfully navigate life after sports.
